In the winter of 2001/02 we let go the female vocalist and the band's name changed to Between. Unfortunately, the male vocalist was more concerned with immediate financial success and ended up doing whatever work was available for pay, effectively leaving the band. The band didn't survive, but I did keep in touch with the bass player, with whom I continued to work on different musical endeavors.
His name was Pawel Gawlik and at this point I can say that I met him at the best possible time during my own musical journey. I didn't know exactly where I wanted to go, both in terms of music and technique, and Pawel opened up a new direction for me, urging me to work on each note, on articulation and phrasing. He is an awesome bass player with diverse influences and background. It was a new start for me in terms of musical perspective.
We started on a series of projects. The first thing we did was instrumental guitar music. However, the compositions themselves were a lot different from what I had come up with in previous years. They sounded fresh and had a very vibrant bass line and modern drum loops. Our repertoire was very well received at the 1st annual meeting of members of the usenet discussion group pl.rec.muzyka.gitara (which I am pleased to be a part of and contribute to now and then) in Grudziadz. I was also happy to host a weekly jam session at the Warsaw club "Kopalnia" for one year starting in September 2001.
During this time Pawel got in touch with Monika Wierzbicka, who was the vocalist for well know pop act HaDwaO. My new approach to guitar playing allowed me to easily morph into my role in the new project with Monika, which was called Pozitivka.
In the second half of 2002, when Monika got back from her vacation in Cyprus she came back with some interesting oriental inflections in her singing. Pawel and Monika were writing new material which was fascinating but which was wildly diverse from what was going on in Pozitivka at the time. For this new material we adopted the name Analog, where you can hear a well-rounded mixture of heavy rock guitar, oriental sounding vocal melodies and modern percussion effects.
Towards the end of the year I happened to perform on the TV show "Bar", along with my longtime friend and charismatic vocalist, Narine Torosjan, who is from Armenia, but speaks fluent Polish.
